The 37th release of one of NZ’s most famous red wines is here! It was 120 years ago that Te Mata planted Cabernet vines in the Havelock Hills in Hawke’s Bay, today Coleraine is widely thought of as NZ’s finest red wine. Te Mata Estate Coleraine 2018
The 2018 vintage saw a smaller than usual crop and allocations in the NZ market are down by a third. This did however help to produce a wine of high concentration, energy, dark colour and typically refined tannins. While the smaller crop did produce powerful concentration and finesse, it also put a squeeze on global allocations for this massively sought after wine, which Decanter magazine declared as “New Zealand’s First Growth”, a phrase in reference to the top wines of Bordeaux based on reputation and price.
As a result stocks of this world famous red are paper thin – we’ve got no doubt our allocation will be gobbled up in no time! After all, this is the wine that globally attracts attention more than any other red from these shores…
