This is classic Martinborough and year after year this is becoming more complex and refined as is the increase of whole cluster fermentation with the previous vintage sitting at around 50%. The nose consistently processes voluminous layers of black cherry, plum and lifted florals while dried savoury stalk fill the nose. Meanwhile the palate goes about its work building in depth and intensity as fleshy dark fruits transition a core of savouriness courtesy of the whole cluster thanks to the flow and energy provided by ripe acidity and tannin. Again Martinborough, like the Hawkes Bay, had a very good 2016 vintage so expectations are the same and potentially a tad more which will mean this wine will have great longevity and complexity.
