For those unfamiliar with the region of Heathcote, it’s almost right smack in the middle of Victoria and renowned for high quality Shiraz, albeit quite different to the classic South Australian style. First off, you can tell Shiraz loves it in Heathcote, as colour is a deep penetrating ruby red with hints of black. On the nose, the wine is rich, complex and layered, with ripe black berry and currant followed by cedar, spice, liquorice and a hint of earth. The palate is perfectly balanced with the black fruit singing through, carried on long linear tannin to a finish laden with liquorice and cocoa. Drink now with your favourite red meat on the barbie or give it 2-3 years in the cellar to gain more refinement.
